Board approves next steps toward a Boys’ Division

Mark Pierotti, Head of School

A school for boys under the Forest Ridge banner in 2012?

The conversation about a Boys’ Division has been in the air around Forest Ridge for more than 30 years. As recently as 2008, after months of study and conversations, the Board of Trustees approved a roadmap for the school’s future: The Strategic Initiatives. One of those Initiatives calls for Forest Ridge to offer a Sacred Heart education for boys. Committees have met since that time to flesh out the details of that program and as recently as this past year, a Boys’ School Committee dug deep into the details and saw a few options for the school’s future. IB Diploma Programme FAQ

Connor Geraghty, HS English/IB Coordinator

Dr. Carola Wittmann and I recently conducted three informational meetings with parents concerning the plan to implement the IB diploma programme at Forest Ridge.  During these meetings certain questions emerged which have helped us to clarify and, in some cases, modify our proposed course offerings.  We are grateful to the parent community for their interest in the IB diploma programme and their valuable input as we strive to develop the best possible course of study for our students.  The following questions represent the most consistent concerns voiced at the meetings.  READ MORE...

Marking the end of the year with our Sacred Heart traditions

Julie Thenell Grasseschi, Director of Middle School

May and June are filled with Sacred Heart traditions across campus. To a newcomer, the traditions can seem simple, but to Children of the Sacred Heart, they are rich with meaning.

On May 21, the juniors received their Sacred Heart rings in the long-standing tradition of Ring Ceremony.  As the seniors walked in dressed in their full white gowns, white nylons and white sandals, I was reminded of when those same girls arrived on campus for the first time in their perfect dress uniform to join their fifth or sixth grade classmates.  READ MORE...

Women as Global Leaders are women of influence

Kisha Palmer, Program Director, Women as Global Leaders

What’s so great about being a woman leader? And what in the world does that even mean?

A hug of gratitude from the Admission Office

Rosanne Tomich, Director of Admission

The end of the school year is always busy. The frantic pace of getting everything accomplished before graduation is upon us! However, I really must take time to pause and say, “Thank You.”  Thank you to all of you who reenrolled your daughters for next year.  In this economic time, we appreciate your dedication to providing a Sacred Heart education for your daughter(s).  We are humbled by your continued support of the mission of the Sacred Heart Network of Schools and the vision of St. Madeleine Sophie. From the Development Office: our thanks!

Mary Kenny, Director of Development

What is a Development Office? At Forest Ridge, like most independent schools, the Development Office is responsible for the Annual Fund campaign, capital campaign, endowment program, planned giving, special events, alumnae relations, reunions and other events and activities through which funds – and friends – are raised.

At this time of year, however, the Development Office is simply …grateful. READ MORE...

Parent volunteers make all the difference at Forest Ridge

Pam Szkutak, Volunteer Coordinator, Parent Association

As I leave my position as Volunteer Coordinator after two years on the Parent Association board, I cannot thank the members of our parent volunteer community enough for all the support they have given to the PA. Without your help, the PA could not provide the numerous events and activities for our parents, students and faculty and staff during the year. READ MORE...

A great year for athletics at Forest Ridge!

Kim Eng, HS Athletic Director

What a year in high school sports!  A record 85 girls participated in sports...11 of whom played a sport every season. One senior played a sport every season for all four years!  In addition, we had nine Emerald City All League Award recipients and two League Sportsmanship Awards.  A Forest Ridge golfer won the Emerald City League Championships, another golfer won the District Championships and both of these golfers competed at the State Tournament where they brought home a 3rd place team trophy for Forest Ridge (not to mention a 5th and an 18th place individual finish)!  Friendships were made.  Confidence, discipline, accountability and leadership were learned.  Thank you athletes for a great year! Highlights from the year: READ MORE...
