Scholarships/Endowments
Note: A gift to any of the following scholarships by December 31, 2010, will be eligible for matching funding via a generous endowment grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Dr. Mary Magnano Smith Scholarship • Awarded to new students in honor of Dr. Mary Magnano Smith '61, Head of Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart 2000-2009, recipients of this scholarship exhibit Sacred Heart Spirit and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship was created in 2009 to recognize Dr. Smith for her more than 40 years in education, including her service as Head of School at Forest Ridge. A generous gift from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation helped to establish the Dr. Mary Magnano Smith Scholarship.
The Sr. Mary B. Flaherty ’49 Scholarship • In 2010, the Forest Ridge Board of Trustees established the Sr. Mary B. Flaherty ’49 Scholarship to honor her 60 years as a Sacred Heart educator. Sr. Flaherty requested that this scholarship be offered to a qualified graduating student from St. Madeleine Sophie Parish school who demonstrates financial need and who is entering the ninth grade at Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. If no student qualifies, this scholarship may be awarded to an incoming High School freshman who otherwise would be unable to attend Forest Ridge.
Alumnae Scholarship • Awarded to the daughter, granddaughter, or niece of an alumna of Forest Ridge. The student exemplifies Sacred Heart spirit and contributes to the Forest Ridge community.
Alycia Long Allen '69 Memorial Fund • The Alycia Long Allen fund was created in 2007 to honor her memory as an alumna, the Director of the High School 2002-2007 and an extraordinary woman who was dedicated to assure that diversity became part of the fabric of her alma mater. Donors to this fund will make possible multiple opportunities for young women to attend Forest Ridge School on a scholarship, to provide for professional opportunities and to underwrite regular school necessities to those who demonstrate financial need.
The Mary Nelson Kenny Middle School Fund • This fund was created in 2010 by Mary Kenny's friends at Stanford University and the Morris S. Smith Foundation to celebrate her dedication of 40 years in education. This fund will make possible multiple additional opportunities for young women in the Middle School who demonstrate financial need, by offering them funds to underwrite regular school necessities. Mary Kenny was the Director of Development at Forest Ridge from 2000-2010.
Charlotte Bonica Scholarship • The Charlotte E. Bonica Scholarship, donated by her family in memory of Charlotte after her untimely death in 2006, is awarded to the high school student at Forest Ridge who personifies the spirit of a Sacred Heart education and whose interest lies in the areas of literature and the arts.
Janet Sheahan Donahoe Scholarship • This scholarship is awarded to a Catholic student who maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA while involved in extracurricular activities and demonstrates financial need.
Solo Scholarship • This scholarship is awarded to a student who is part of a single parent family and demonstrates financial need.
Alice Petty O'Dea Scholarship • Alice Petty O'Dea, Sacred Heart alumna and mother of Sr. Marcia O'Dea, RSCJ, endowed this scholarship in appreciation of Sacred Heart education and her daughter's educational mission as a Religious of the Sacred Heart. Recipients of this scholarship value the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education, exhibit an appreciation of music, and demonstrate financial need.
Maude and Francis Rogers Scholarship • This scholarship is awarded to a student who exemplifies Sacred Heart Spirit and demonstrates financial need.
Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ Scholarship • This scholarship is awarded to a student who exemplifies Sacred Heart spirit and demonstrates financial need.
Genevieve Albers Scholarship • Given in memory of Genevieve Albers, class of 1927, this scholarship is awarded to a Middle or High School student who is Catholic and demonstrates financial need.
Aurelia Danz James Scholarship • Given in loving memory of Aurelia Danz James, class of 1937, this scholarship is given to a student who demonstrates financial need.
Yvonne Flood Pigott Scholarship • The recipient of this scholarship exhibits Sacred Heart Spirit and demonstrates financial need.
Forest Ridge Centennial Scholarship • Given to honor 100 years of education at Forest Ridge and the memory of Virginia Satterberg Helsell, this scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates scholastic achievement, leadership, academic, and athletic abilities, and financial need.
Mary Isabel Sheehan Bone Scholarship • Awarded to a high school student who exhibits Sacred Heart values and demonstrates financial need.
Marie-Louise L'Abbe Flohr Scholarship • Awarded to a junior or senior who is Catholic and a US citizen. At least one parent of the student must be a citizen and resident of the 50 United States. The scholarship recipient contributes to the Forest Ridge community, exhibits Sacred Heart values, and demonstrates financial need.
Maureen Romano Scholarship • This scholarship is given in honor of Maureen Romano, class of 1972. It is awarded annually to a high school student who demonstrates interest in global activities such as Sacred Heart exchange opportunities, international language, and current world events. The recipient may demonstrate financial need.
Susanna McPherson and Dr. James J. Lane Scholarship • Awarded annually to a student with demonstrated leadership potential, interest in community service, and academic ability. The recipient may demonstrate financial need.
The John Barth Scholarship • Awarded to a high school student who is interested in science and exhibits Sacred Heart values. The recipient may demonstrate financial need.
Raymond and Donna Guerin Middle School Scholarship • This scholarship is awarded to a Middle School student who exemplifies Sacred Heart spirit and demonstrates financial need.
