Mad Science seeks to spark the imagination and curiosity of children every where. We do this by providing them with fun, interactive and educational activities that instill a clearer understanding of science and how it affects the world around us. Secret Agent Lab

 Sessions and Times:

     Session 1 (June 23-27, 2008) Afternoon Class

     Session 4 (July 21-25, 2008)  Morning Class

Go inside a scientist's lab and discover the secrets you've always wondered about! Use your skills as a chemist to make your own radical reactions with batteries, a chemical clock, and more! Compare fingerprints and discover the mysteries of DNA as you fine-tune your secret agent skills. Make "brain goo" and check out your bones as you travel the organ trail and uncover the secrets of your own body. Become a Mad Science detective and use your forensic skills to solve the "Great Cookie Caper"!

  

The Painted Pot

Sessions and Times:

     Session 1 (June 23-27, 2008)  Morning Class

For the beginner painter in you. You will learn how to paint small ceramic statues and wall hangings. After painting the items with several different colors, apply a gloss coating to the ceramic to help preserve the paint. Learn several different painting techniques. No previous experience required. Please send along an old paint shirt.

  

Sewing, Sewing, Gone!

Sessions and Times:

     Session 3 (July 14-18, 2008)  Afternoon Class

Do you want to continue your sewing experience? You will be challenged to make new projects while learning several new tricks and techniques. Choose from several different project ideas and fabrics while learning how to lay out patterns and create masterpieces!

  

 

Moving with Science

Sessions and Times:

     Session 2 (July 7-11, 2008)  Afternoon Class

     Session 3 (July 14-18, 2008) Morning Class

Discover how things move with science! Take apart pellets to see what an owl cannot digest! View the world through a camera obscura that you make yourself. Join a team of camper engineers and build bridges, domes, cubes, and pyramids. Assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, and simple machines. Make your own sidewalk chalk, crystal gardens, and chromatography-dyed T-shirt!

  

Rockin’ Rockets

Sessions and Times:

     Session 1 (June 23-27, 2008)  Morning Class

     Session 3 (July 14-18, 2008) Afternoon Class

Mad Science invites you to launch into the science of flight as you build your very own rockets! Experiment with different kids of propulsion systems as you use your new knowledge to blast off, track and recover different kinds of rockets. Even treat your stomachs to some rocket snacks. You are going to have a "Rockin" good time at Rockin' Rockets Camp!

  

Come Sew with Me!

Sessions and Times:

     Session 1 (June 23-27 2008)  Morning Class

     Session 4 (July 21-25, 2008) Afternoon Class

Learn the basics of using a full sized sewing machine! You will learn how to use a sewing machine properly and work on several exciting projects you can wear, give as gifts, or use with dolls and stuffed animals. Sewing machines and all materials will be provided. Previous sewing experience is not required.

  

Science Sleuths 

Sessions and Times:

     Session 2 (July 7-11, 2008)  Morning Class

     Session 4 (July 21-25, 2008)  Afternoon Class

Decode the world around you as a Mad Science Sleuth! Send secret messages to your friends. Get a taste for space with an astronaut snack! Explore the universe with your own orbiter and use teamwork to unearth pollution solutions. Figure out the trick of the tight ropes and sniff out scents on our Mad Science trail. Uncover the answers to these mysteries and more as you become a genuine Mad Science Sleuth!

 

 Scrapbooking

Sessions and Times:

     Session 1 (June 23-27, 2008)  Afternoon Class

Learn the fun, creative hobby of scrapbooking your memories and keepsakes. Bring photos from home to put into an album or choose to create pages in class and add  photos at home. Several embellishing techniques will be taught and use lots of samples to create your pages. Several “theme” pages will also be made. All supplies will be provided.

  

Woodworking Made Easy

Sessions and Times:

     Session 1 (June 23-27, 2008)  Afternoon Class

A great class for any age! Learn how to assemble precut wood into wonderful creations! We will make things for the home, such as spice rack-type shelves; things for the students, like mini chest of drawers; and other great wood projects like birdhouses, and butterfly houses.  Previous woodworking experience is not required. No power tools will be used in this class. Please send along an old paint shirt.

  

Fun with Motors

     Session 2 (July 7-11, 2008)  Morning Class

     Session 4 (July 21-25, 2008) Morning Class—Registration Closed/Capacity Reached

Woodworking with action!  This great class is for boys and girls who love to make things go. Begin by building your project out of wood, painting it, and then adding a motor to it! We will make cars, dinosaurs, and other animals that move with a battery operated motor. Previous woodworking experience is not required.  No power tools will be used in this class. Please send along an old paint shirt.

  

Come Along Lil’ Doggie

Sessions and Times:

     Session 2 (July 7-11, 2008)  Afternoon Class

A great class for the pet lover in you. Learn how to take care of your cat or dog. Animal lovers will learn how to properly feed, brush, walk, and bath your cat or dog. Pet first aid will also be taught as well as basic pet anatomy. You will be working on real dogs at times and on stuffed animals at other times. Dogs will be present at times throughout this class, but please do not bring your own pets to class. 

  

Jewels for You

Sessions and Times:

     Session 2 (July 7-11, 2008)  Afternoon Class

     Session 4 (July 21-25, 2008) Afternoon Class

Bracelets, and beads, and necklaces, OH MY! Come learn how to make several different items out of beads.  Besides making necklaces, earrings, and bracelets; you will be shown how to use beads in several other ways. Enjoy making jewelry out of silver and gold finding, elastic, cording, and glass.

 

 A Home for You

Sessions and Times:

     Session 3 (July 14-18, 2008)  Morning Class

Woodworking isn't just for boys!  In this wonderful class, you will make your very own full sized doll house. You will learn how to assemble the floors and outside of the house, how to sand and paint the house, and then finish the outside and inside using your creativity. Previous woodworking experience is required for this class.  Please send along an old paint shirt.

 

Glass Etching

Sessions and Times:

     Session 3 (July 14-18, 2008)  Morning Class

Ever wonder how they make those glasses and plates look so pretty? It really is a very easy and fun hobby.  Come learn how to add etching to plates, vases, and glasses. Several different sized etching will be taught and you will be able to add etching to several different types of items. Rubber gloves and safety glasses will be provided. Please send along an old paint shirt.

  

Ahoy! Matey!

     Session 3 (July 14-18, 2008)  Afternoon Class

Looking for a challenge in woodworking?  This class is a great continuation of the beginning woodworking classes. In this class, students will make a full-sized treasure chest. You will assemble all pieces, sand the project, paint the chest, and then decorate as you wish.  Previous woodworking experience is required for this class.  Please send along an old paint shirt.

  

Here a Square, There a Square, Everywhere a Square, Square

Sessions and Times:

     Session 4 (July 21-25, 2008)  Morning Class

Are you interested in just quilting?  Can you believe that there are actually thousands of different quilt blocks to make? Show off your new skills by making a small quilt out of several different designs. Or perhaps, you would rather make each new design into a doll quilt, purse, or placemat. You will learn at least 9 different quilt square patterns

  

Needlework

Sessions and Times:

     Session 2 (July 7-11, 2008)  Morning Class

Are you interested in several different types of needle work? We will show you how to needlepoint, knit, crochet, and weave.  Make at least one project out of each technique. A great introductory class!
