Tracing Our Roots: Forest Ridge Joins Sacred Heart Educators in St. Charles

rootstoroutes2026

Forest Ridge was well represented at this year’s Roots That Give Us Wings gathering, held June 28-30 in St. Charles, Missouri. Assistant Director of Development Megan Schoening, Assistant Dean of Students Mollie Cogswell, and Middle School English faculty member Angie Dengel joined educators from Sacred Heart schools across the Network for this annual formation experience.

Participants immersed themselves in the rich history and enduring mission of Sacred Heart education through visits to Villa Duchesne, Florissant, the Academy of the Sacred Heart, and the Shrine of Saint Philippine Duchesne. Along the way, they engaged with presentations that invited them to reflect on What Are the Roots That Give Us Wings, explore Sophie’s Story and the development of Sacred Heart education From the Rebecca to the Network, and consider how we are called to carry the mission forward through Living the Mission: Sophie’s Call for Today and The Mission Into the Future. Conversations about the work of the Sacred Heart Network and Conference further deepened participants’ understanding of their shared mission and vocation as educators.

Rooted in the legacy of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, Saint Philippine Duchesne, and the Society of the Sacred Heart, the experience inspired attendees to return to Forest Ridge with renewed purpose, strengthened connections, and a deeper commitment to forming students who lead with courage, compassion, faith, and heart.
