The Sacred Heart Exchange Program connects students, host families, teachers, staff and community members with the greater Sacred Heart community around the world. This past summer Forest Ridge girls traveled far and wide as they explored some of our many sister Sacred Heart schools. We wished Nora T. !Buen viaje! as she headed to Madrid, Spain for four weeks at Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Rosales. Avani D. and Lily D. traveled to Barcelona, Spain, for the end of the Spanish school year. Vicky Z. visited Tokyo, Japan, and learned a great deal about Japanese culture. Down under, Halle D. visited Brisbane, Australia, while Fran F. and Izzy R. checked out Auckland, New Zealand.
The Sacred Heart Network also offers summer camps which connect students with important educational issues: Elena B. and Christia F. (along with teacher Ms. Kari Levin) traveled to France to participate in Faces of the Heart. Also, Brooke B. took part in the Taiwanese Cultural Camp in Taipei, Taiwan. Check out the Exchange blog to learn more about the students’ experiences, new friendships and international fun.
To highlight these travel experiences, students participated in the Postcards from Abroad Sacred Heart Exchange Photo Contest. Congratulations to winners Chloe F., Leah W., Halle D., Fran F., Lily D. and Avani D.
Celebrating different cultures also happens closer to home. The Forest Ridge International Cuisine Days in the FRidge (Forest Ridge Commons) kicked off in September as Hungarian exchange student Nora K. helped Chef Ron to prepare and serve a Hungarian meal, and Spanish visitors Lucia M. and Elsa G. shared some delicious dishes from Spain. A big thank you to Chef Ron and his staff for helping our entire community eat well and learn about different foods from around the world!
Eighth Grade Sacred Heart Community Experience
Forest Ridge is excited to offer our eighth graders the opportunity to join the Sacred Heart Network Experience for the first time this year. Eighth grade students may apply to spend one week at another Sacred Heart school in the United States to enhance connection and friendship within our shared Sacred Heart community. During this one-week visit, students attend classes and participate fully in the life of another Sacred Heart school. Students participating in the Eighth Grade Network Experience live with a Sacred Heart host family, and then host a student from the same school when she visits Forest Ridge. Applications for the Eighth Grade Network Experience are due November 16.
This school year will be another amazing opportunity for our students to visit schools throughout the US, Europe, Asia, and Oceania, bringing their Forest Ridge spirit with them. We will also welcome many visiting exchange students this year who will share their culture and enrich our school community.
