Students from the Class of 2012-2018 have the option of participating in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme during their junior and senior years. The IB Programmes are now offered in over 5,000 schools worldwide teaching over one million students across the globe. The IB Diploma Programme enables students to study six disciplines in depth while also recognizing the concurrency of learning across disciplines and fostering international mindedness. Students electing to earn an IB Diploma must take classes from each of the 6 areas of the IB subject area groups with 3 being Higher Level (HL) courses and 3 being Standard Level (SL) courses.
At Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme offers a range of courses in the core subject areas that fulfill the high school graduation requirements: English, international language, social studies, the sciences, mathematics, and the fine arts. IB classes are two year courses of study, beginning in the junior year and continuing into the senior year. Students have the option of pursuing the IB Diploma or taking individual IB courses (referred to by IB as ‘course candidates’). The latter option allows the student more flexibility within the high school curriculum.
