International Students

An “international” student is a student who requires an I-20 to study in the United States. Forest Ridge has a long and successful history of welcoming international students from countries as diverse as Austria, Canada, China, Colombia, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Forest Ridge is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students. Upon admission, an international student is issued an I-20, which allows her to apply for an F1 Visa. Please note that international students in The Middle School must live with parents or a blood relative while international students enrolled in The High School must live in our boarding facility on campus or with their parents.

Campus Visits
We do not require international students or families to visit campus as part of the application process, though we welcome those who wish to visit campus by appointment. Please contact Rosanne Tomich to arrange your appointment at least two weeks in advance of your arrival. International families may also attend regularly scheduled campus and classroom tours, sponsored by the Admission Office. To register for a tour, click here.

Applications
Step 1 - The Application: The international application is the gateway to our Admission Process. Click hereto complete the online International Student Application through Ravenna and pay the application fee. A current, color photograph of the student must also be submitted.

Step 2 - Standardized Testing: We require the following testing for international applicants (please note grade levels, where applicable):
  • Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Forest Ridge School Code: 3205
  • TOEFL Test (for those who do not speak English as a first language) for applicants in Ninth through 12th Grades. Forest Ridge TOEFL Code: 6000
  • TOEFL Junior Test for applicants in Sixth though Eighth Grades. Forest Ridge TOEFL Code: 6000
Step 3 - Request for Transcripts: We ask that you include the last three years of grade reports, including any testing results with your application. Please complete the Records Release Form in the online application and submit to the student's current school. Instruct the school to send official records to Forest Ridge.

Step 4 - Teacher Recommendations: We require one recommendation from an English teacher and one from a Math teacher. The forms (found in the Ravenna online application) must be translated into English and must be received by the application deadline of January 15, 2019.

Step 5 - Current Passport and Immunization Records: We require a color copy of the student's current valid passport, and the Washington State immunization records, completed and translated into English.

Step 6 – Confidential Financial Statement: In order for Forest Ridge to prepare to issue an I-20 Form, the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service requires that all parents of applicants submit proof of their ability to support their child's studies.

Step 7 - Schedule an Admission Interview: A Skype interview is required as part of the international student application. Once a completed application is received, the Admission Office will schedule the Skype interview with the family. If the student and her family move/travel to the United States, an interview can be conducted in person on campus.

Step 8 - Decision Notification: High School applicants will be notified online on February 22, 2019. Middle School applicants will be notified online on March 15, 2019. If you have any questions, please contact Rosanne Tomich, Director of International and Boarding Admission, at 425.201.2426, or email Rosanne at rtomich@forestridge.org.

Step 9 - Forest Ridge Issues an I-20: A signed enrollment agreement with a $5,000 (USD) deposit is required from admitted students before the process of the I-20 can begin. Once we have received enrollment paperwork and the deposit, Forest Ridge will issue an I-20. Full payment is due May 1, 2019.
