Summer Experience 2023

If your child will be absent from classes during their session, please call the Forest Ridge Front Desk at 425-641-0700 or email summerexperience@forestridge.org to notify us of your absence. There are no refunds for days or weeks that students cannot attend the summer session.

Students should arrive each day with a bag containing all of the items they need for the day. Items that students are encouraged to bring include: sunscreen, hat, snacks, lunch, and water bottle. Forest Ridge is an outdoor campus.

Students should wear clothes that are comfortable, safe, and appropriate for outdoor play and the activities that they will be doing in class.

Cell phones use is not permitted during Summer Experience. Students who come to camp with their phones/electronics, should keep them in their bags throughout the duration of the day.

Students are responsible for taking care of their personal belongings during the day.

Students and families participating in Summer Experience operate under the mission, vision, and core values of Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. Policies and procedures governing Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart apply to students and families attending the Summer Program.

Students are expected to be respectful of others and the learning environment. Guidelines are established to help provide everyone in the community with a positive experience

• Treat one another with courtesy and respect
• Help one another
• Take care of school property
• Clean up after using materials or space
• Listen to and follow directions and instructions provided by Summer Experience employees

Respect and consideration for each member of the community is essential for the well-being of everyone. A student who is disrespectful towards a teacher, staff member, student, or anyone on campus will be held accountable. If a student has difficulty following the expectations, teachers or the Director will redirect the student. As needed, the Director will communicate with the family.

Ongoing behavior challenges or challenges that are significant in nature (bullying, vandalism, stealing, physical contact, etc.), will not be tolerated at Forest Ridge Summer Experience. Forest Ridge maintains the right to ask students to leave the program.

If any of the Forest Ridge Summer Program sessions or classes are full, families can request to add their daughter to the waitlist during registration. If space becomes available, we will contact families directly by phone and email. Families will have 48 hours to respond and let us know if they want to enroll their child into the session or class. If we do not hear from you during that timeframe, we will contact the family with the next daughter on the waitlist.

Families can withdraw their child from a program at any time. Forest Ridge will retain the $50 deposit when families decide to cancel their registration. If Forest Ridge cancels the class for any reason, families will receive a full refund including the $50 deposit.

 

The full tuition is due 2 weeks prior to the camp start date. If families cancel their reservation after that date, no refund will be issued. Families can also move their reservation at no cost.

Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart reserves the right to cancel classes due to a lack of registration or previous unforeseen circumstances. In this event, we will notify families no later than one week in advance of the session start date. Families will receive a full refund for any cancelled classes.

This course provides opportunities for students to engage in art journaling and creative poetry (Found Poems, Blackout Poetry, Spine Poetry, and more). Art journaling creates a deep sense of self-awareness, empowers, inspires, clarifies thinking, and encourages creativity. Students do not need any prior experience with art, journaling, or poetry to participate.

Student Entering Grades: 5-8

 

Ever wonder what it’s like to investigate a crime scene? In this class, you will have a chance to experience what it’s like to investigate a crime scene using scientific observations, evidence, and data analysis. Become a forensics investigator and look at a simulated crime scene in which you’ll work with a team to uncover the truth!

Date and Time: Monday, July 10 - Friday, July 14, 8:45 - 11:45 a.m.

Student Entering Grades: 2-8

 

Students are invited to learn a skill they will use for a lifetime and a hobby they will forever enjoy…sewing! No experience necessary for boys and girls to learn the basics and beyond. New students will learn machine safety and beginner sewing techniques, while the more experienced students can expand on skills they already have.

 

This class is student-led, and they advance at their own pace with autonomy over the projects they choose to create. Camps and classes are designed to teach children with both beginning and advanced skills. Projects, which are constantly rotating during the quarter, include backpacks, phone cases, clothing, accessories, bags, games, stuffed animals and more! This is our most popular and most inclusive class.

Price: $285

In Video Game Design, you'll design an interactive game using Scratch and hardware components, like Makey Makeys, Vernier sensors, and Arduino boards. You'll share your video game on the last day of camp as we create a Forest Ridge Arcade!

Date and Time: Monday, July 17 - Friday, July 21, 8:45 - 11:45 a.m. 

Student Entering Grades: 3-5

 

Hone your naturalist skills by exploring the wonders of the forest, wetlands, and gardens both here at Forest Ridge and beyond our campus. We'll learn how to navigate by topographic map, track animals, identify plants, and more!

Date and Time: Monday, July 17 - Friday, July 21, 8:45 - 11:45 a.m. 

Student Entering Grades: 6-8

 

This course is open to anyone who wishes to explore the craft and practice of creative writing. Whether you’re well into your tenth chapter or have never written anything longer than a tweet, this class will encourage you to stretch your creative muscles.

Student Entering Grades: 5-8

 

In High Tech Fashion, you'll use high-and low-tech tools and materials to create wearable fashion items. We'll explore a brief history of fashion and learn to use tools like 3D printers, Lilypad Arduinos, and a laser cutter.

 

In this class, students will think like an engineer and put inventions to the test! In Open Shop students will have the chance to create, design, or invent a product or device. The possibilities are endless! In addition to a wide variety of materials, students have access to a 3D printer and sewing machines as well as robotic devices. Students can come up with their own invention or test their creativity with a daily design challenge.

 

Are you a self-proclaimed Pokémon Trainer? This may be the course for you! Students will learn about real-world geographical and cultural influences on Pokémon World-Building and Region Design, test catching and battle strategy using basic statistics, and even learn to build their own competitive dream team! The course will culminate in an individual design project by each student presenting a unique Pokémon illustration, ability, moveset, and Pokédex entry. Hone your English, Social Studies, and Math skills through the wonderful world of Pocket Monsters!
